Richard Cormier has been appointed as Director General and Head of Programming at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), overseeing the NFB’s production, distribution, and marketing. With 30 years of experience in the audiovisual industry, he founded Canada’s first digital visual effects studio, Buzz Image Group, and has led creative content initiatives across Canada and the U.S. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Digital Creative Services at MELS Studios in Montreal. Cormier aims to enhance the NFB’s creative approach and expand engagement with younger and more diverse audiences.

Soo-eung Chae is a director and producer who has worked in Korea, the United States, and China. He pursues the convergence of various genres and media, combining traditional media with cutting-edge technology. In particular, he is interested in exploring transhumanism through cinematic experiments and continuing to expand the scope of cinema and VR centered on AI and machine learning technologies. By borrowing the elements of cinematic experience within the genre of film, he presents a new grammar that is produced according to the audience's participation by utilizing AI technology. In recent years, Chae has been expanding the grammar of traditional genres such as theater, film, games, and exhibitions, and to develop interactive content and new media genres based on audience participation using AI. Chae served as the 3D/VFX producer for the film Mr. Go and VFX supervisor for Detective Dee 3: The Four Heavenly Kings, which earned a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 55th Golden Horse Awards. Additionally, he directed LAPSE, a Korea-China feature film selected for the competition section at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN). In the VR domain, Chae directed Buddy VR, which won the Best VR Experience award at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, and created the VR attraction Follow the White Rabbit, showcased at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. He also contributed to the development of LG’s AI virtual human, 'Reah Keem'. Currently, as the head of Aria Studios Inc, he is developing character-centered AI interactive entertainment content and solutions. His film Apartment: In the Realm of Ripley was selected in competition at 2024 Venice International Film Festival.
PhD from MIT Media Lab
Pat Pataranutaporn is a scientist and technologist at the Fluid Interfaces research group at the MIT Media Lab, where he explores human-AI interaction, cyborg psychology, synthetic biology, and more. He has collaborated with NASA, IBM, Stanford, and others to investigate the future of human-computer interaction, and his research has been published in academic journals such as Nature Biotechnology, IEEE, and ACM. His work has been featured in media outlets like Forbes, Scientific American, and National Geographic and showcased at major exhibitions worldwide, gaining significant attention.
Recently, Pat served as the series creator for the Netflix sci-fi anthology TOMORROW AND I, a project that envisions a new future for Southeast Asia. The series provides a fresh perspective on the culture of Thailand and Southeast Asia, offering viewers a reimagined vision of the region.
